Fr. Samuel Weber, O.S.B., Chant Master
This year, the second annual Mid-west Gregorian Chant Workshop is please to present Fr. Samuel Weber, O.S.B., as chant master. Fr. Weber, the director for the Institute of Sacred Music in St. Louis, is well known for his work in Gregorian chant and English plainsong compositions as well as the Mundelein Psalter. Fr. Samuel will lead the two-and-a half day workshop geared toward both newcomers to Gregorian Chant and those who have had some experience. Participants will work on Mass IX, as well as the propers for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and the Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin.
Participants will be house in Ferrell Hall, the original monastery for St. Benedict’s Abbey, which was recently renovated into a modern, apartment style dormitory for the college. Meals will be provided from Thursday evening through Saturday evening.
Participants will also receive a packet of all music upon arrival as well as a copy of the Liber Cantualis, a helpful little chant book for all church musicians.
One of the greatest aspects of the workshop will be the beautiful celebration of the Roman Liturgy in the Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms in St. Benedict’s Parish Church (pictured below), the original abbey church, built in 1866 (view more pictures here).
